An unusual item from post WW1 Britain. These cartoon match strikers were made to be sold by unemployed war veterans. I should think it may date from the 20's thru the depression 1930's but not sure. Made of cardboard they contained a striker pad for matches. Measures 11"x5 1/2". Appears to have had little if no usage. discoloured from age. Years ago someone dabbed the cartoon figures noses red. Highly unusual item. I think the survival rate on these must be very low. The bottom line which cannot be read in the scan states: " Sold by unemployed War veteran, trying to make a living."
